App Basics

AI technology will gradually replace human labor in low-end industries. It will do in music learning domain, too. Basic things should be done by computer!

During music learning process, fault pitches and wrong rhythms may not be corrected in time because learners are oftentimes unable to recognize errors on their own.

For instruments learning, practices are needed everyday. Efficiency will be largely increased if learners can get real-time feedbacks during practicing hours at home.

The founder of this app, as the father of a child learner, has the pain point of having NO knowledge about music. He organized the team to resolve the problem.

You can download this app for free. Most of the features are free in the App.

Free features include: Music Sheets downloading, Audio Demos, Audition Mode, Note-by-note Mode, etc.

A few features are only available to Premium members.

New users will get free Premium for 15 days. Authenticated teachers will be given free Premium.

There are about 400 albums in the Music Cloud.

And also, we will update the sheets and add more sheets persistently with no charge.

Almost all devices (phone/pad) of both Android and iOS platforms are supported.

No support for PC computers, Windows system devices.

The most recommended device to use this App is iPad.

This app occupies much resources. Low-level devices or old devices may not run this app. For example, the device which use below 5.1 version Android system or below 9.0 version iOS system.

Currently this app supports Violin, Viola, Cello.

It will also support Winds in the near future.

We have no schedules for Guitar, Ukulele, Piano or traditional Chinese instruments yet.

Sheets, Albums, Collections

On app Home page 'Violy', find 'Music Cloud' button, click it to open the online Music Cloud library page, then you can see all of sheet albums listed.

The library has some areas. You can switch area at the top right of the page.

We maintain the Music Cloud consistently. Current sheets are continuously updated and more sheets will be added if needed.

Open Violy app, at the Home page there is a button 'Music Cloud', click it to open.

Sheets are organized by music names, composers, and albums. You can search keywords to find a sheet.

At the top of Music Cloud page, there is a navigator 'Search'. Click 'Search', input keywords in the input area, then click Enter on your phone keyboard.

The keywords may be: sheet name, composer name, or album name.

At the Home page, find the section 'My Albums', click 'View All' at the right side, then enter album management page.

Long press the album/Click Manage button at the top right, then a delete button will be displayed at the top right of any album. Click to delete.

Collection feature is what you just need. You can add some sheets into a Collection as you need.

At the Home page, find the section 'My Collections', click 'View All' at the right side, then enter Collections management page.

You can also add a sheet into a lineup when downloading a sheet.

Sheet Show

At the left bottom of sheet display page, under 'Tools' section, there is a button for the Metronome. Click it to open Metronome page, then you can adjust the playing speed as you like.

Sometimes you may want to play one section of the sheet repeatedly.

At the sheet display page, click the button at right bottom 'Play', then app will play the songs of the sheet from current cursor.

During playing, you can click any note on the sheet, then the music will continue on the note you clicked.

You can play the corresponding part repeatedly by clicking on the start note of the section every time.

Currently the sheet songs are synthesized by computer, and that's why it sounds artificial.

In addition, some articulations and markings are not supported yet in the sheets.

We will improve the music demos later, and likely with live recording in future.

Practicing

Considering the inconvenience of operating on screen when playing instruments, we designed that there is no need to touch screen when playing.

1. Find out the sheet you want to play at Home page. Click to open the sheet and enter into the sheet display page. Confirm that current practicing mode is 'Audition Mode' at the top center.

2. Play open strings notes E-A-D-G one by one. When all notes turn green at the top center of the page, the intonation check is passed.

3. Then you can see 'GO' on the screen and hear the 'DING' sound. Now you can start practicing.

When playing the E-A-D-G open strings, play slowly, clearly and loudly.

If you still cannot pass the check, your instrument may be out of tune.

In addition, since the sound of the G open string (4th) is very low, it is much more difficult to be recoginzed and matched, so the note need to be played lourder.

The sheet display page in Audition Mode can switch Paragraph State at the top-right 'Menu'.

If the Paragraph State is enabled, you can click to select sequential multiple sections as you want.

After paragraph selected, start practicing from the first note of the paragraph. When playing comes to the last note of the paragraph, the practice will finish immediately.

When sheet display page is in Audition Mode and Paragraph State is not enabled, you can start practicing from any note.

Before practicing, the Start Point is where you must start playing from.

Just click the note you want to start from, then the Start Point Flag will switch to the new position.

After E-A-D-G open strings check passes, you can just play the sheet from the Start Point Flag note. When you want to end the practice, just stop playing. Then after 6 seconds the app will end the practice.

In Audition Mode, the cursor should follow the current note as you play.

However, sometimes the cursor does not align with the note, even the score following breaks off, and the app finishes the practice ahead of time.

Basically it is due to: a. too many fault notes; b. voice not loud enough; c. too much noise interfered.

If the factors of noise and volume are confirmed to be excluded, we suggest you do NOT use Violy app to evaluate before you are familiar enough with the sheet.

Click the "Click" which is under the top-right 'Menu' button, then open the "Click" to turn on the metronome during an audition.

If the Metronome is on, once the Audition starts, Metronome sound rises. Metronome sound will disappear when the Audition ends.

At the top-center of sheet display page, Audition Mode is default. You may click to switch to Note-by-note.

After switching to Note-by-note, play the current note where the cursor is at; if correct, the cursor will move to the next note. Otherwise, the cursor will stay still.

The use of Note-by-note is solely for intonation practicing; rhythmic practice is inapplicable in Note-by-note mode. We do recommend that you practice more with Audition Mode rather than relying on Note-by-note mode.

Audition Results

After opening an Audition practicing result/record, pay attention to the statistics panel at the bottom of the page first.

The panel has 4 parts: Overall, Pitch, Rhythm and Note. You can click on the name or slide around to switch to the part you want to check.

At the Pitch part, besides fault notes, you may also see the statistics of sharp or flat pitches.

On the sheet display page, the notes with light-blue background are practiced notes. Line segments on the horizontal line below every line of the staff means pitch/rhythm deviations. Upward segments mean high, and downward segments mean low. When you switch to Rhythm part, line segments mean deviations of rhythm. All else mean deviations of pitch.

On the Audition result display page, click on the note you concern. Then at the stats panel at the bottom of the page, the detail of the note will show.

It should be noted that the red number at the right of the key of the note means cent offset. 100 cents equals to a half-tone.

After clicking the Play button at the bottom-right corner, the App will play from the start of the recording. At the same time, the cursor will move along on the sheet.

During playing, you can click any note on the sheet, then it will switch to the note to coninue.
